Pros & Cons - Legalization of Marijuana

There are many people for and against the legalization of marijuana here in the United States.  People have been debating this hot topic for decades and the debate is only getting more intense. Many people feel the the goverment shouldn't be allowed to enforce these laws, whereas others feel that the government isn't doing enough. Medicinal Marijuana has become very popular, but many feel that people are taking advantage of this "exception." Who's right?  Should people be allowed to use Marijuana recreationally or only medicinally?  Maybe not at all?  Let's briefly go over a few of the more valid pros and cons of marijuana legalization.

Pros:
·         Marijuana isn’t any more harmful than alcohol or tobacco (if used in moderation).
·         Not allowing the drug to be used by the public is an intrusion on our personal freedom.
·         Could allow for the drug to be sold for a lower price, reducing crime greatly.
·         It has countless medical benefits for those that are undergoing chemotherapy, suffer from depression or if you have glaucoma to name a few.
·          It could be another source of tax revenue like with tobacco, alcohol and other “sinful” pleasures.
·         All the money, time and manpower we are wasting on the “Drug War” could be put to use on other more legitimate cases in our court system.
·         The drug could be regulated by the likes of the FDA so that the quality and safety of the drug could be overseen by the government.
·         For some it’s just a guilty pleasure as is alcohol, coffee, sex, etc.  And no one should have to give up any of life’s pleasures if they aren’t harming anyone.
·         Cannabis has thousands of alternate uses ranging from clothing and paper to insect spray and construction materials.
Cons:
·         Marijuana can sometimes be used as a “gateway drug” which then can lead to more serious drugs such as cocaine and/or heroin.
·         Numerous religions don’t allow the use of any mind-altering substances so it is looked at as morally wrong in many people’s eyes
·         Increases the chance of a child getting their hands on the drug and causing long term damage to their mind and body.
·         Anyone who would decide to abuse the drug could cause permanent physical damage.
·         The more people that are using marijuana increases the amount of second hand smoke that can be inhaled by bystanders which could be harmful to their health.

It's time to break through all of the lies and legalize!

It should be allowed for medical reasons. I do not think the negative side effects are publisised or emphasized enough. Legalizing this drug makes people assume that it is safe to take. Like meowmeow before it was made illegal many took it and then died because 'they thought it was safe because it was legal'. Weed can cause depression, parionia, addiction and many more problems. I do not think it would be advisable to have it so readily avaliable for everyone to take.

I do think marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and tobacco and it should be a personal choice if someone wants to use it.
Legalizing marijuana would help to keep it out of the hands of underage people under 21 years old.
I think for recreational use marijuana should not be used in public except in places where a beer would also be acceptable.
I think the drawback would be if people were to spend the day in a stupor, but some people do that with alcohol already.

Is this for REAL?? Who wrote this? I do not think they have the facts. Marijuana is not a gateway drug. And, " Increases the chance of a child getting their hands on the drug and causing long term damage to their mind and body.· Anyone who would decide to abuse the drug could cause permanent physical damage.· The more people that are using marijuana increases the amount of second hand smoke that can be inhaled by bystanders which could be harmful to their health."

Really?? Since when is MJ harmful to anyone?? Physical damage?? To what, your fingertip if you burn the roach too low?? The bruises the cops leave when they brutalize your reefer-smoking ass? I mean seriously...
